Nkumba Guild Boss behind Kyambogo’s Buni censor.

Image

Oneka Lit Denis, the outgoing UNSA President during last year’s UNSA elections at Kabalega SS in Masindi

BY PHILIMON BADAGAWA

The guild president of Nkumba University is allegedly said to have fostered the chaos in Kyambogo Guild politics aimed at censoring their President, Buni Christopher.

The Campus Times has learned that Felix Safiri Kayihura and the Vice Guild President of Kyambogo University were involved in secret meetings for the last two months planning for a possible exit of Buni as Kyambogo Guild President.

Buni has expressed interest in contesting for the coming Uganda National Students’ Association’s (UNSA) elections as president, a position that Kayihura is also eagerly warming for. UNSA lections are set for 28th-30th January 2013 at Ndejje university main campus in Luwero district.

Close sources reveal that among those intending to vie for this post, Buni is proving stronger than all the intending contenders of UNSA top job and thus posing a great threat to Kayihura who is the current UNSA speaker.

Besides the alleged embezzlement of Guild funds that Buni is accused of and that led to his suspension towards the end of last year as Kyambogo Guild President, UNSA politics has been at play in the recent Guild power struggles at Kyambogo University.

However, Kayihura who is alleged to be behind this entire saga refuted these allegations when The Campus Times contacted him about his involvement in destabilizing Kyambogo Guild affairs.

“I’m not informed, Kyambogo Guild is independent and student leaders are mature enough to separate the bad from the good, if they found out that Buni was not fit, they are right to push him out” Kayihura said.

Buni insists he is innocent and says that if the ongoing investigations prove him otherwise, he is ready to resign but his intention to contest for UNSA post still stands.

To qualify for UNSA president, one must be a student’s leader at a Tertiary institution or University in Uganda. This means that if Buni is censored out of office, he will not be legible to compete for the post.

The outgoing UNSA president, Denis Lit Oneka says all is set for UNSA to hold a free and fair election than never before.

Kyambogo University students on strike

Students breathed in tire gas

Today the Police were playing hide and sick with the disgruntled Kyambogo University students. The chaos followed allegations that the Guild Speaker, Akena Allan had disappeared mysteriously after falling out with the Guild President, Buni Christopher.

Buni is accused of mismanagement of guild funds by a section of guild officials. There are allegations that shillings 110m disappeared from the guild account.

Kyambogo guild government is divided into two camps. One in favor of the guild president and those against the misconduct of Buni are rallying behind the speaker.

The situation was only calmed after rioting students ran short of breathing air-oxygen. They were forced to take to their kneels when Police started firing tire gas at the campus promises.

A few weeks ago, Makerere university Guild President, Ivan Kata was also accused of betraying his fellow students by conniving with the University administration for approving the new tuition fees policy that requires a student to complete 60% of the fees dues at the beginning of the semester.

Skinny jeans could endanger your life

Don’t put style before health

By Adderah Karugaba Image

For men, the skinny jeans fashion trend may have an unexpected side effect. High fashion has a cost and it’s not just on the price tag but skinny jeans may actually jeopardize your health. Experts are warning that the surge of tight jean popularity among men especially is sparking a rise in painful testicular problems.

Medical experts, including Dr. Hilary Jones of UK television personality, have reported an increase in injuries resulting from wearing tight jeans. The effects include twisted testicles, bladder, weakness, and even urinary tract infections.

Twisted testicles is a serious condition that occurs when tight trousers prevent the spermatic cord from moving freely meaning it twists and leads to testicular torsion which cuts off the blood supply requiring immediate surgery to prevent a gangrenous testicle.

Other dreaded side effects from wearing tight jeans are low sperm count and fungal injections. The advice is to make sure you leave plenty of room around the growing area so that your pants and trousers feel comfortable.

For women, wearing skinny jeans can increase one’s chances of developing a vaginal yeast infection.

Health experts say that tight jeans also increase the risk of nerve compression which can lead to tight or numb thighs to both men and women, health experts.

I fell in love with my best friend’s boyfriend

Friends whispering sweet nothings.

Friends whispering sweet nothings.

I had never had a boyfriend before, although my best friend had quite a few.  One day, I was with her at her boyfriend’s house and she left for home to do some homework.

I was going to go home too, but her boyfriend “let’s call him Dan” said I should stay for a behind since we were all going to hang out together with my best friend.

So, after my best friend had left, Dan and I started jumping on the bed. Eventually, I fell over tripping him up, and he fell on top of me.

We hugged and laughed and then he brushed somehow out of my face. He told me I looked beautiful, kissed my forehead and then somehow, we were making out.  I kept pushing him away, but he just said, “shh, it’s okay, she won’t find out.”

I gave in finally. We went on too far and ended up into oral sex. His mum walked in the middle of my organism! She thought I was Dan’s girlfriend who had excused herself and left.

The next time my best friend and I were over there, his mum kept dropping hints. It was awful. I felt like a bitch and that how I lost my virginity to my best friends’ boy friend.

Marrying Too Early

By Wilson Mbaziira

Marriage  call it an institution, and St. Paul calls it avocation for only those ready to take the tremendous tasks involved in it. For many it might be a dream long waited for, as for some its the last thing to think about.

I consequently get shocked when i get updates via my face book account and picasa that my former schoolmates got married, kwanjula, kuhingira, have two or more babies yet me am like afresh graduate from high school, and questions like why the hurry keep lingering in my mind.

In the ancient days without social media like twitter and facebook, when a girl clocked 25years and not yet married , would be taken as ‘Eyaddiba’ in our local language meaning love failure.

But thank God for this education.   Our sisters after  graduating think the world has come to nearing without getting a man to marry them off, but why the hurry?,     Can we not committee ourselves into bounds we are not sure of!, imagine the pressure from relatives after school, things like ‘you have grown’ i rebuke them strongly and also, take your time my dear friends before you land in hot soup that will leave  you injured at a very tender age.

Have you wondered why so many claim of broken hearts now days I strongly believe marrying too young is the cause, because we missed those joyous times of doing as we pleased and being forced to grow up and face the responsibilities at a forced time, yes many of us are born as a result of this, I heard that our grand’s at 16 were eligible marriage type .No that can’t happen now ,I bet a huge scandal would erupt if you got a sweet 16 or 17 for marriage.

Makerere students form parallel Guild Cabinet

Ivan Kata,Makerere University Guild President. He is accused of betraying his fellow students by approving the 60% tuition policy.

Dissatisfied students of Makerere University have set up their own guild executive after falling out with that of Ivan Kata.

The guild president, Kata is accused of conniving with the university administration in passing of the 60% tuition policy minus consulting the students who voted him into power. Kata is also accused of failing to account for more than 90 million shillings.

Under the new tuition policy, a student is meant to pay 60% of the tuition fees at the start of the semester and 100% by the end of the sixth week of the semester.

It’s from this background that a fraction of concerned students set up another elected 31 member guild executive led by Geoffrey Kasumba as their new guild president, Pamella Amollo as vice president, Paul Kinyera as the prime minister among others.

Last week some students demonstrated and petitioned the newly appointed University Vice Chancellor, Prof John Ddumba Ssentamu over alleged misuse of office by their guild president.

Besides the 60% tuition policy, the petition outlined other reasons such as the closure of the guild president’s office for eight weeks, failure to attend to students’ demands, misuse of the guild president’s car.

Cyriaco Kabagambe, the dean of students, however dismissed the new elected guild executive saying that it’s illegal and not known by the university administration.

The guild speaker, Lewis David said that the students’ concerns can still be solved expressing concern that the dissatisfaction has come at a wrong time of Exams. Students are preparing for end of semester exams set to start next week.
