City bus made me miss a Lecture.

Passengers ready to board pioneer easy bus.(Photo-http://www.flickr.com)

Time check is 8:30AM, and already at Centenary in a queue into the city bus to Kyambogo stage at Banda. The weather was student friendly, and more so to me since I had not carried an umbrella with me.

After lining up for about 15 minutes; I found my way in. The Bus finally sets off at 9:30 from Centenary Bank for Bweyogere.  Before reaching Jinja Road traffic junction, the bus had made five stops before the sixth one at the traffic lights.

My watch was reading 9:50, and the lecture at campus was already on. I couldn’t believe it, but I had to take a humble pie. I started regretting as to why I boarded pioneer easy bus.

All was not as easy as I thought easy bus would be. It was my first time to use it and perhaps my last. After missing a lecture due to the bus’ endless stops, I realized cheap things are never cheap.

That was it with me, I believe others are enjoying the affordable services of city bus!

Guild President fights over girl

H.E Kayihura Safiri Felix, the Guild President of Nkumba University enjoying a light moment with one of the campus girls.

The Guild President of Nkumba University, Kayihura Safiri Felix is allegedly fighting love battles with Sudanese students, The Campus Times has learnt. Close sources reveal that Kayihura has allegedly fought several times with a Sudanese student over a campus girl only identified as XXXX, not real names.

Those close to the two parties say that their love scandal has been going on secretly for the last four months. The cat was only let out of the bag when Kayihura was seen exchanging blows with a gentleman at Hope hostel a fortunate ago. However, this fight seemed not to have solved any of their indifference, last week Kayihura was again seen flexing with another Sudanese student, a.k Obote at S&S super market.

This forced students to find out why H.E Kayihura was fighting in such a public place. It’s alleged that Kayihura is using his position as Guild president to hook other students’ fiancés and because of this; he has won himself a new title, the ladies’ president. Friends to the lady’s president (Kayihura) say that they have tried to intervene but no promising fruits have been yielded yet.  He however says that these are baseless claims. Adding that the girls themselves keep on tempting him because they think he has the money.

“You should know that I’m not an exception, I’m a human being with all the functionalities of life, and in all corners, these girls are there, but still I am there president and can’t pass them minus saying Hi”, Kayihura, the Lady’s president concluded it all.

Students to cane guards.

By Denis Bakampemukira.

When a night guard attached to one of the varsity hostels took countless packets of wine recently, he couldn’t hold his gun right. He instead started shooting aimlessly in the air. The students and neighboring residents were shocked at this man when he continued pulling the trigger of the gun and shot aimlessly. Lucky enough no one was injured. Investigations into the cause of this scandal are ongoing. The Campus Times has however learnt that some of these guards do not know how to use the guns.

The guards have since been blamed for neglect of duty especially at night. “Most of these gaurds always doze off at night leaving their guns unattended to”, a student complained.

Students are asking the manager of the hostel to change the security guards due to their incompetence. Students have promised to cane these guards if they happen to behave in this reckless manner again.

10 man Nkumba pips Kyambogo, edges closer to Title

Inter-Vasity Super 6 Football

By David Isabirye

Fans celebrating their victory at one of the games where they were allowed access.

Nkumba 1-0 Kyambogo

Neither Nkumba nor Kyambogo knew of their match venue until three hours prior the kick-off. The organizers decided to keep this replay game’s venue as secretive as heaven and hell. At long last, Kavumba Recreational Stadium in Wakiso District was confirmed. The first leg was abandoned at Nkumba University a fortnight ago due to fans violence.

Enter the game proper, no fans were allowed access to the stadium and the assumed host side, Nkumba, who rested their first choice goalie, Ronald Mutebi for Paul Sseruwu started the better team with crispy passes masterminded by their inspirational captain, Yassar Mugerwa and right winger, Dan Nsubuga. Kyambogo’s goal custodian, Adui Okule Rahman thwarted Nkumba’s Meddie Ali and Vicent Onyango on two on different occasions.

In the 10th minute, Kyambogo’s Herbert Ggaliwango, against the run of play missed a glaring one-on-one with goalie Paul Sseruwu after being played through by an intelligent ball from Adriko.

The assumed home team continued pressing for the break through strike and a goal mouth melee in the Kyambogo territory gifted Fred Umony’s superbly taken header on the 20th minute mark to point a ten man Nkumba University side in the lead.

Playing with calmness, Nkumba players resorted to time wasting antics until center referee, William Ssenkumba called for a half time recess. Kyambogo’s technical team introduced Osoa Morris Karomoza for a weary Mukowe Alex, and his impact was felt immediately as he was fouled outside the area by goalie Paul Sseruwu, who picked a booking as a result. Minutes later,Ggaliwango Herbert also made way for Peter Yakani as Kyambogo desperately searched for the equalizing goal.

Nkumba got a baptism of fire in the 75th minute as Sseruwu picked a second booking for time wasting and the referee never hesitated to send him for an early shower. In came, Ronald Mutebi for the place of striker Vincent Onyango for Nkumba’s only change of the game.

The game eventually ended with a slim one nil victory for Nkumba amidst celebrations and wild chanting from the technical bench and players.

“This is a morale boosting victory over arch-rivals Kyambogo University. Let’s wait for our last game against MUBS at home, we need that cup”, remarked Nkumba’s captain, Yassar Mugerwa.

Wavamunno gives Nkumba 99M

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

BY PHILIMON BADAGAWA

Nkumba University students will have a reason to smile if the new planned modern administrative building is set up. The university has started raising money and recently they organized a fundraising dinner hosted by the Chancellor, Prof Gordon Wavamunno, on November 9th at Lugogo show grounds.

At the end of the fundraising, 135 million shillings had been collected. Wava contributed 99 millions, Nkumba guild government led by Kayihura Felix pledged 1 million. While the speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga also pledged two hundred thousand shillings only among others.

While speaking at the dinner, Hon. Amanya Mushega expressed concern over the quality of graduates being produced today by the universities in Uganda. “Most universities have become more commercial and let me hope Nkumba will not only make money but produce well equipped graduates”, Amanya Mushega said.

Wava said that the students’ money should be put to right use and argued the university management to be open with the money collected. “I want to see that a foundation is there and am ready to be fired if things are not running the right way”, Wava told the university management.

The dinner is part of an ongoing process towards infrastructural development and shall house offices of various staffs, including the Secretariat of the University Council and facilities for the University inventory.

The Vice Chancellor, P.E.T Mugambi revealed that the structure will cost them about five billion shillings.
